Optimism in Times of Trial – There is a raging debate on how much bad news we should share with those around us. My day usually begins with reading several newspapers keeping an eye on the business and careers sections because that is the way in which I can keep informed on things that apply to my work. Often my cut-and-paste mentality kicks into high gear and I share things that interest me with my colleagues.  – more –
How to #Fail on Twitter –  There are different degrees of failure. Even when specifically defined rules are suggested, failure is very subjective. Considering myself a recruiter rather than a social media expert, I hesitate to even offer advice on the subject, but there are some assumed rules of the Twitter highway that need to be broken and others which are so common-sense they should be mile markers etched in marble to show the way. – more -Â

The Death of Print Media – Several years ago I joked with a friend who was the city desk editor of a newspaper that I cancelled my subscription when the parakeet died…I no longer needed paper to use as a cage liner.  A good natured jab, but I could tell that I touched a nerve. Later when I was contracted to recruit for an expansion to a digital media group, I was bombarded with applications from candidates seeking to escape from print and be granted asylum in electronic media. – more –

Shredding Day -  For my European and Aussie friends who are following me, this is not about a new strange American holiday when we all eat tumbleweed cereal. Shredding day is when I go through the pile of unopened mail which has accumulated and assumed to be junk. Yesterday was that day. Those selected from the pile that don’t make it past the first visual inspection get fed unopened to R2D2, as I lovingly call my office shredder, and most of the pieces of mail that do get opened usually meet the same fate. – more –

Making Leadership Memories – Reflection on past jobs, past bosses and past relationships shines a spotlight on the stage from which we live out our lives. Using what is referred to commonly as “20/20 Hindsight†we profit from mistakes and move on. Seldom do we in the moment think that we are making memories. We are only experiencing the present and memories are to be formed somewhere in the future. – more –
