DiversityWordJan 21 - False Pride in Diversity Programs – Many HR related websites and blogs will spend January 21st with obligatory tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. There is no debate about his significance in history as a powerful force for equality of all humankind. VolunteerHandJan 22 - It’s Your Turn to Volunteer – There is a debate raging in many of our nation’s high schools about requiring mandatory service projects for seniors. HandKeyJan 24 – Knowing It All Is a Daunting Job – Through the benefit of modern technology we hold the key to more knowledge than could have been imagined only a few years ago. In his book “Net Smart: How to Thrive Online” author and online pioneer Howard Rheingold writes about becoming literate in these processes that are changing our world. The information surrounds us, but without key literacies being distributed among all people we risk suffering from information overload.  – more –

FingerPointJan 25 - Job Search: Pointing the Finger of Blame - Something is wrong with the traditional job search process. Something is broken. We hear “good” news reports that “only” 330,000 new people applied for unemployment benefits in the United States last week, but considering that the number of initial claims is still that high is staggering. Maybe the headlines would not be seen to be so encouraging if taken in the context of the lives being touched. That number is more than the population of several major cities. – more –
