Life Checker

  • by

I love it when I can write with impunity because I know that a spell checker will jump to my rescue and make it look like I can actually spell. If I choose to use a syntax checker I can fix my grammar inconsistencies and make my writing more coherent. Sending text messages can be benefited greatly by auto-correction when it helps fat fingers on a tiny touchscreen turn gibberish into sensible language.

On the other hand, moving too fast can be problematic if the “suggested” replacement text shifts away from the intended word. We have all experienced sending text messages where the entire meaning of the message makes no sense because we didn’t notice the unintended substitution. When I get mail spelling my last name “Blot” I have to laugh because it is spelled correctly, but still wrong and it signals a somewhat impersonal personalized note.

Wouldn’t it be great if our actions could be fixed by a life checker that instantly makes the wrong way right? Immediate suggestions for alternatives to quick decisions would be a major help along the way to a successful career. Of course, allowing the life checker to implement a fix without our control could make matters worse and take us off course.

But wait a minute…isn’t being a principled individual who has a conscience a good check of what is right and wrong? Slowing down and making conscious decisions based on having a discussion with your inner self can be your life checker.

I’m in a hurry to get things done
Oh I rush and rush until life’s no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I’m in a hurry and don’t know why

Lyrics: Alabama “I’m In a Hurry”
