From the Archives of Make HR Happen – Those Times We Talked Passion and Personal Perspective

There is a pilot light within each one of us that ignites our actions. It is mostly automatic and seems to know when to brighten us to the necessary degree, but sometimes we are driven by our emotions, or perhaps our hormones, to reach down deep inside of ourselves to stoke the flame in ways we didn’t even know were possible. Have you ever been so moved during a conference or meeting that you extemporaneously spoke out on a topic and wondered later, “Wow! Where did that come from?” It was there all along but needed the right push as a call to action. How much of that energy do we waste when we do not see the need for passion? Balance is a good thing so that we don’t overextend ourselves and burn out, but we always know that there is more to give when we need it. We call that self-confidence.

The True Meaning of Passion - I wrote an article last week where I mentioned that one of The Three Essential Key Elements for a Great Hire was passion. On my more cynical days I am capable of an eye roll as well when I hear comments like that taken out of context.  – more –

rainbowAre You Missing Out On Your Rainbows? – Advice is cheap and often borrowed, refined and repeated. It has been said that plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery and I am a master flatterer. I have had several occasions over the past month to use the term “negaholics” in discussing how some people can only see the negative in everything. I can’t take credit for the term because I first heard it in the book Negaholics: How to Overcome Negativity and Turn Your Life Around (1999, Wellspring/Ballantine) by Cherie Carter-Scott. – more –

Cue the Music – Movies have become a constant form of entertainment for most people. Whether it is going to see a first run extravaganza on a wide screen or in our living rooms on a smaller scale, we crave escape from real life into fantasy. Occasionally, Hollywood will convert a classic Broadway Musical into a widescreen presentation, but all movies include some kind of musical score that seamlessly weaves itself into the plot. Some music actually trademarks the action. – more –
